The challenge
Bestbid's idea was simple to explain and hard to build. Buyers would name their own price on premium products, and vetted vendors stocking that product would compete to accept, counter or decline. Standard e-commerce platforms only support fixed prices and checkout. They have no concept of an offer, a counter-offer, or several sellers competing for one buyer.
The platform also had to earn trust fast. Shoppers paying ₹10,000 to ₹10 lakh+ for a Tissot watch or a Canon lens needed to feel as safe as they would on a large marketplace. Sellers needed their own separate space to manage bids.
